SEEDS

Paper-based « casualized » RTS Game as second year ENJMIN project.

Build up a project focusing on the pre-production and provide a 15-minute long vertical slice playable by the developers. Second year projects are more focused on selling your title than creating something strange to play, or innovative. Here they want us to create a structured project from top to bottom, including financial aspects, visual research and full documentation.

Here’s a link to our final Game Design Document.
Paper version had popping-up and sliding parts to keep with the theme.

A two-player strategy game with an asymetrical gameplay.
Nature and Civilisation are two ways to control your people and to fight a common enemy that brings chaos and destruction to your beautiful paper planet : Ink!

More About The Gameplay

We wanted something easy to experiment with but with a real depth so mid-core gamers can find challenge and strategies to build upon.

Players have different ways to control their faction :

  • One plays Civilisation, the other Nature.
  • One has a skill tree to enhance his people, the other will have to create new species of animals and harvest the soil.

But wait, you thought they were going to fight ? Nope.

This game is a cooperative RTS game, once both players know the basics of their controls, they soon encounter their commom enemy : Ink!.
For these factions made of paper, this is the end of the world, they will have to work together and gather their forces to flee their doomed planet as soon as possible.

This project was big, very big for four months at most of hard work but we tried our best to get the best results. It’s not always easy to communicate inside a 12-person team but this also has its benefits. As Game Designer, I tried to create interesting stuff, new ideas that where never seen and that actually works, it’s not always the good way to go but playtest will tell us.
